Dublin
By Paul McCann
The old man came down from the top of O’Connell street
Sometimes after midnight as the rain fell down
We both met there at Moore Street where he put his arms around me
With tears in his eyes he said
“I love this old town .”
Dublin she’s work me , she’s broke me and she’s soaked me .
She’s taken the best years that I’ve had to give .
Dublin’s my city , she’s hard but she’s pretty
Dublin it’s in you that I’m proud to live .
I looked at the old man then took up my guitar
and played some of the old songs though my fingers were numb ..
The cold wind was blowing our songs through the city .
Around every corner we sang as I strummed .
Dublin she’s work me , she’s broke me and she’s soaked me .
She’s taken the best years that I’ve had to give .
Dublin’s my city , she’s hard but she’s pretty
Dublin it’s in you that I’m proud to live .
The old man and I said goodbye on the corner.
We both went our separate ways in the rain .
Dear God in heaven look out for that old man
Who hearts as big as Dublin , but I don’t know his name .
Dublin she’s work me , she’s broke me and she’s soaked me .
She’s taken the best years that I’ve had to give .
Dublin’s my city , she’s hard but she’s pretty
Dublin it’s in you that I’m proud to live .
