Empty Streets
By Paul McCann
The streets of the city , they don’t look so pretty
whenever she’s not around ,
The empty cold sidewalks
where no one ever talks
are dark you can’t hear a sound .
They say it’s a hard life
when you haven’t got a wife
and its so lonely when night falls down
and there’s no one to hold
and you’re left out in the cold
on the empty streets of some town ..
Who count’s their blessings
when the only hard lessons
are in the school of hard knocks that I keep
so I do my very best
to stay out of the mess
as the world around me crashes in a heap .
Then as everyone goes mad
I find a way to be glad
because I’ve been spared a little time
on the outside .
So everythings’ ok in a crazy kind of way
on the empty streets where I run away and hide
Well a woman’s anger is known to me
the only thing that’s grown can be
calm inside the storm of the heart .
No one ever is alone
even when you’re on your own
deep in the recess of the heart .
So do you ever wonder why
as you do all you can to try
and save the day with love for her ,
but if she doesn’t care ,
then you’re better off out there
on the empty streets of the city somewhere .
Empty streets where I hide away
everything that went wrong today ,
no one can find reason to what went wrong ,
on the empty streets of this big city
they don’t pity anyone who is left out there .
