The Home Invader
By Paul McCann
It had been a very busy day, and I was driving home from work. All I could think of was getting home to my family. For me It had always been a great feeling to have a home with those I loved inside. Home sweet home was always about family. Life around our little home was getting busier every day.
with a new baby and visits from relatives and friends who always called in to say hello . We had regular visits from the grandchildren and our own kids .
The cat and the kittens and the dog always doing what they do.
The two who work from home as well as the usual crew all together in our happy little home . We always have a lot to share and we have all worked hard for what we own . There are laughter and a welcome for anyone who would call , That’s home sweet home for us . The babies who crawl.
the toddlers who run around and never sit still ,
Each day after work I always look forward to getting home and even though the rooms are small there room enough for us all ,
We try to help one another and live together in the home with and one having a moan because we care from one another . There’s a lot to said about life in the home ...
It’s a place where no one argues and everyone’s happy to be there doing whatever it takes to get along . There’s no better feeling than getting home after a hard day at work and just walking through that front door to the friendly greeting.
My wife looked at me and said,
“There’s something in the roof, would you please go and see and remove that creature and put it back wherever it comes from “
So, I went and got a touch and a ladder and with my usual warm friendly face
I climbed up to the roof and was met by this thing from outer space . Two huge red eyes where glaring back at me . I never knew my wife had followed me up the ladder and as she crept up behind me and touched my back , I let out a loud scream that scared the creature who also screamed out followed by my wife who went into hysterics . Everyone in the house thought we must have lost our minds. I grabbed my wife and tried to calm her down and at the same time she grabbed me by the ankles and said.
"Someone's at the door, can you go down and see who it is ? “
Trying to manoeuvre my way down the ladder past her I ended up just jumping but I missed the manhole and went straight through the ceiling that gave in underneath my weight and I ended up landing on the floor with the brush tailed possum following close behind right beside me . As frightened as the possum was it jumped into my arms and dug its sharp little claws into my forearms . The person at the door heard all the ruckus and came inside .
He looked at me and said,
"Are you OK?"
As I tried to stand up the possum leapt from my arms onto his head which made the strange caller run away screaming with the possum trying to cling on to him .
I stood there and watched from the from door.
Down the path and on to the street he ran with the possum still on his head where a police car happened to be passing by. It was really lucky that they were because the person who had been knocking on the front door was carrying a loaded gun . As it turned out he had escaped from prison and was seven weeks on the run . In the area the police had said there had been a number of home invasions and that’s why they had been driving around the neighbourhood . The prisoner had eluded capture until he came to our door .
It was already late and but the weekend was ahead so there was no need for me to get to bed early so I after dinner we all had a laugh about the possum in the room chasing out the attempted home invader .
There’s always something going on around our little home in our little street but we’re always happy to be together at then end of the day .
The End
