King Of Karma
By Paul McCann
I sat in a pub out of town
as no one knew me there .
I said to them who were there
have you got some time to spare .
i’m just a rough old diamond
who chanced to come here today .
Life is a wonderful thing
no matter what people say .
I walked the streets of London
and slept on the streets of Cork .
I ate from bins and dog food tins
and didn’t need a fork .
Ended up in shelters
from Dublin to Belfast as well ,
Stayed in derelict buildings
about five footsteps from hell .
Some people called me a bum
but they never realised,
I was the King of karma
standing there before their eyes .
Life’s just a roundabout ride ,
what goes around comes around
when things are looking up
they can just as easy go down.
I’d never been hungry
and I’d never felt any shame ,
I never thought that I would be
a man without a name .
Once I was a tourist
with money and places to go
then I was homeless and broke
and sleeping out in the snow .
It was cold at night and dangerous
on the streets out
there .
I went and asked for help
from people who just didn’t care
.
I had no family
in a place I didn’t belong
I prayed each night that my life
in morning would be gone .
I moved around from place to place
unwanted everywhere .
I wondered why God in his mercy
never heard my prayer.
Too weak to speak I looked for work
and found myself a job .
but that same day
I was confronted by an angry mob .
Beaten up badly by those thugs
and left upon the street ,
Eventually I found my way
and got back on my feet .
I was taken by an ambulance
who had come to my aid.
The police also arrived
and an arrest had been made .
What a difference I have seen ,
sometimes life can be so strange .
Once I’d prayed for my life to end
but now all that has changed .
I’m the King of karma
who comes knocking
upon your door ,
Long time , no see ,
I know none of you
have seen me before .
Some of you might be thinking
I’ll just run away and hide
but here and now I’d like to say
life’s a roundabout ride .
.
