It was almost summer when she was born ,
I heard the baby cry on that first morn ,
I bathed her and welcomed her to the world ,
then picked a rose and gave it to my girl,
I loved that rose and kept it all summer
I placed the rose in my button hole there
The perfume arose as I walked on air ,
I smelt the new life that caressed my face.
I saw the world as a beautiful place ,
One sweet kiss that lasted all the summer.
Too soon the soft petals begin to fall.
and the summer had an eviction call
the rose had died and for me life goes on .
A bed of thorns in the garden at dawn
Farewell my lovely last rose of summer.
