Night Out In The City

On a staircase in the city ,

dressed in red she looked so pretty,

and what a night I had with her ,

We booked a nice room with a view

went to this restaurant we knew

and ordered chicken  cordon bleu.

We ate and drank and talked away

and afterwards we made our way

to see a show that was in town .

On a sidewalk in the city ,

I thought isn’t it a pity

to see the homeless bedded down .

A man stumbled out from a bar

right in front of a police car

that pulled up at the traffic light .

They say there’s no justice at times

for innocent victims of crimes ,

the drunk was looking for a fight .

He pulled a knife on both of them

and one of the armed policemen

fired twice and the drunk man was dead .

A crowd had gathered there that night ,

Some said that it just wasn’t right .

Sometimes things in life change so fast .

Somebody taking their last breath

Lying there between life and death  

as the city traffic went past .
