The Rulers Of Lalaland
By Paul McCann
In lalaland where kids rule , parents and other grown-ups have to answer to the wishes and demands of children . Orders are handed out every day for what has to be done and if they are not carried out there are consequences for those responsible .
Cubby houses need to be built for children all over Lalaland . New toys brought in daily.,Scriptwriters , cartoonists , musicians and narrators are employed to produce frequent movies for all the children to enjoy and other entertainers provided daily to keep the children of Lalaland happy . At various times , there is regular hand feeding and hygiene provided by the grownups . Each day daily outings are required to satisfy the needs of the children .
There are never enough hours in the day to get everything done and the demand never ceases for more to be done .
The children of Lalaland never understand grownups need time to rest and sadly many of the grown-ups become like slaves answering to the kids demands . Giggles were the desired language used in Lalaland and crying was banished , never to be heard . Parents and other adults worked tirelessly to make that happen . It wasn’t easy to please the rulers of Lalaland but at the end of the day somehow everything turned out ok .
There were many special events and festivals during the year that had to be planned in advance to avoid problems or cancellations which would be catastrophic for everyone in Lalaland .
From the beginning of time there had always been the cherished Easter Egg Hunts , the annual Hanging Up of Christmas Stockings , the magical mystery tours , Kids Picnic days , fantasy island escapes , street parades , playground activities and the jumping castles , trampoline games , circuses and all the kids games with funny names like hopscotch , hide and seek and dress up days .
These activities kept were what made Lalaland the happiest place on earth .
The rulers of Lalaland could only reign for eight years and then they were replaced by new rulers .
It was said that after turning eight the rulers were sent out on ships and planes to faraway places to start a new life .
No one had ever returned to Lalaland to speak about their new life .
Parents and grownups tried to pretend that some of the previous rulers of Lalaland turned into teenagers who got hijacked by aliens and never returned to earth while other grownups tried to make up stories about how once they had been children but many of those who ruled Lalaland dismissed this theory and regarded adults as funny giants who were on a secret mission to protect Lalaland and make the world a better place .
