Running Free
By Paul McCann
Once when we were running free
like the wind on the prairie
when the world had just begun and we were young
We were Shawnee and we were one tribe
undivided and filled with pride we walked all over the land
Then came one dark day
when they came to take us away
but all they could do
was put us into
some Indian reserve
but our spirit is free we’re not scared .
We are the brave shawnee
Yeah yeah yah yah Hey hey hey
how how nah nah nah sha sha shea shea shea
we ci ci come away in the spirit
we are one to run forever free
Great spirit of the blue light ,
you are never far from sight ,
to you we will always bring
all of the songs we sing in praise
of the running deer , listen to the wind
and you’ll hear us coming in
silently running free .
We are the Shawnee
