This Songbird Had Flown

She came down from the sky and somehow she knew how to fly ,

long before her wings turned to stone

and so she flew to the unknown

where she had learned to sing and so she whistled

for some crumbs that were thrown for her .

She would sing from the dawn till the dusk

and as the moon looked over all of us

but there was no song in the sky for the dragonfly ,

The songbird she had closed her eye and the day was gone

like a gust wind in a secret garden lost in a great somewhere .

So they asked the maker of the honey hives if she had heard

was she still alive but no one knew what on earth had happened to her

then the morning came and she awoke with a song that she had known

to be hanging from a Dandylion the summer air .

She flew away to the sun

and she wouldn’t come back for anyone .

Now her songs are heard in eternity

And on the other side her wings have grown

like the dragonfly dancing in the sky

and the encore there is for all of us to share .
