The Streets Of Maldon
By Paul McCann
I walked inside the foyer for just a little while
the reception there was cold for the want of a smile .
so I stepped back outside into the wind and the rain
and walked the streets of Maldon and watched a passing train .
There were sand dunes there that looked like these miniature cliffs ,
Some trucks were there waiting to be loaded by fork lifts.
Chimneys were busy making smoke for birds in the sky
I walked the streets of Maldon and thought of times gone by.
Between the Mills and pathways I found a little store ,
I thought it was open so I walked in through the door.
A man with a bag in his hand said he worked at night ,
he quickly filled his bag and disappeared out of sight .
Around the streets of Maldon , some strangers waved at me
It helped to remind me that most people are friendly .
I forgot all about the harsh people I had met
on the streets of Maldon I have nothing to regret .
.
The streets of Maldon can be as silent as concrete
and green are the pathways that lie underneath your feet .
Sure you can walk all around there for many a mile ,
through the wind and in the rain for the want of a smile .
