Chapter 7

 Dumped Out Of The Saddle  

Beth discovered she had a gift with horses very young . When she was in primary school one of her friends in class invited Beth to her house for her seventh birthday party . When she was there at the party , a man was giving some of the children rides on the pet pony around the property . When it was Beths turn to have a ride, she heard the pony whisper hello to her .

Then during the ride, she discovered she had this ability to communicate with the pony . Her inner voice was able to communicate with the pony .

Later that night she told her parents about the great time she had her friends birthday but she never spoke about the special gift she had .

She asked Irene , her school friend if she could come over at the weekends to learn how to ride better . Her friend said she would have to ask her dad first to see if it was ok .

Beth was so excited when Irene said her dad said it was ok to visit at the weekends to have time with the pony .

The first Saturday Beth met Irene’s dad Herbert who was a professional jockey who rode thoroughbred horses on racetracks .

Beth was very impressed with that and Herbert liked being admired for his skill with horses . Every weekend Beth would spend all her time at Irene’s place but sometimes Irene went shopping with her mother leaving Beth with her dad who was allowing her time with some of the other horse on his property .

Beth’s gift with horses was now reaching other aspects she hadn’t dreamt of .

Soon she realised that some of the horses on the property were being abused and they would come to her . There was something about Beth that horses trusted and in a short matter of time Beth began to see that Herbert wasn’t a very nice man .

Beth screamed for him to let her go but he refuses and told her if she ever told anyone about what he did to her he would kill the pony and make her sorry she was alive .Beth wasn’t able to tell her parents about what Herbert did and was frightened for the little pony and herself .

She loved the horses so much that she continued going to Irene’s place at the weekends . Each time Irene was going to go shopping with her Mum Beth asked Irene to stay as she missed her company , Beth thought if Irene was there her Day would not dare to lay his hands on her again .

Herbert was shrewd and sometimes he would sent Irene off to-do a job or bring something to the shed and when Irene was away Herbert made sexual advances on Irene . Herbert now was in total control of Beth who was too frightened to tell anyone about what was happening .She also thought if her Herbert denied what was going on it would cause a problem for Irene and even her own parents .

Then she had an idea of trying to make some videos on her mobile phone of what Herbert was doing to her so she would have proof of everything he was doing .

Suddenly for no reason Beth began to have seizures and they were becoming more frequent . Her first seizure lasted about a half an hour and then they were occurring daily . The doctors had no explanation of why this was happening .

She was no longer able to go to Irenes due to her condition and Beth’s life was one of isolation and medication .

One morning she was found dead in her room . Beth had hung herself and her parents were having a hard time accepting the grief of losing their only child .

Herbert was relieved she was gone and never had any worries about his actions with Beth being discovered . His career as a jockey was leaping ahead with him riding more winners every week .

It was the biggest race meeting of the year and he was riding a horse called Predator that was well fancied to wing the group one race  . It was a steeplechase race over two miles and had one of the biggest fences to hurdle .

Predator took an early lead in the race and was putting a gap in the field . The horse was off and gone but just before it leaped at the large fence the horse unexpectedly pulled up to a stop and in the process, Herbert was catapulted out of the saddle and was airborne and went over the fence and landed on the ground on the other side . Within a few minutes all the other horses had arrived at the fence and one by one jumped over the fence crushing Herbert who died instantly from the injuries .

After the race an investigation was in process , Vets went into Predators stable and took some swabs .

One of the race stewards found a mobile phone in the stable and they thought there might be some evidence on the phone relating to the strange behaviour of the horse .Because of the death on the racetrack the  police were in attendance and they were able to access some of the photos and videos that were there .

What a shock it was for everyone when they saw Beths videos of Herbert sexually assaulting her .

When the news became public , other girls stepped forward and informed the police about Herbert interfering with them .

Beths family had no idea of how her mobile phone ever ended up in a horse stable however they were grateful that it did and although the compensation they received would never bring Beth back it made them cope easier knowing the background of the crime committed on her was now widely spread .
