What A Soldier Does'
By Paul McCann
.
The soldier questioned the war:
When and who is it all for;
Who is right and who is wrong;
Why can’t we just get along;
What’s different about me;
Where ever can we agree;
What’s different about them;
All wars must come to an end.
The soldier questioned his faith:
God where are you in this place;
Why don’t you stop all the hate;
Who of us here can relate;
Where can your justice be found;
When will real healing come down;
What are you saying today;
Can you hear Lord as we pray?
The soldier stood there alone
As if he had been disowned.
There was no answer for him,
Just deadly silent and grim.
Then within the noise of war
The soldier questioned no more;
He accepted who he was
And did what a soldier does.
