In A World Of Their Own

Joshua met Lara at university . He was doing an engineering course and she was finishing her studies in chartered accountancy ; they were in a steady relationship and were planning to get married at the end of their studies .

With what they had saved they had enough money for a deposit on a new home and decided to buy a four-bedroom home as they both wanted to start a  family and after they wedding children arrived as planned .

The years passed quickly and their three children were growing fast .

Johnny , Frankie and Sally were being home schooled and never had many friends .

After Lara’s Father passed away, she was going to inherit all her father’s estate as her mother had died before the wedding . Lara was going to be a very wealthy woman and most probably she and Joshua would never have to work again and could live a comfortable life with the money they had ,

They decided to invest in a mansion and started looking around at what was on the market , Joshua noticed a very charming estate home that was up for auction . They both had a look at the old place and fell in love with its charm and went all out to purchase it . They loved the outside of the home and bought it on face value ,. Thet decided to leave checking out all the rooms inside the home until after they moved in . It added a kind of mystery and excitement that was worth waiting for . The home was bought fully furnished and in a short time they were ready to occupy the place .’

When that day arrived, Joshua put the key into the lock and opened up the front door . The five of them went inside and stood in the hall at the foot of a large staircase . It was almost like a fairytale , The bog old house seemed to crave for company . Johnny ran up the staircase to check out one of the  rooms upstairs . .

Once he went through the door, he found himself inside of a tree house somewhere in a jungle . He had a great view of the whole jungle and outside the front door there was a wooden ladder that descended down to the ground where pathways awaited to be explored into the jungle .  

Both the other children had run upstairs to check out different rooms .

When Frankie opened up a door he was standing inside a cabin on a mountain . Outside it was springtime all wildflowers were scattered all over the mountainside . Birds were singing in the trees and there were paths waiting to explore .’

Sally went into a room and discovered she was inside a beach.

House . There was a swimming pool outside with  deck chairs around and a beautiful view of the beach . There were some canoes and a jet ski lying on the sand by the water’s edge  . Several islands were in close proximity of the home  .

Joshua went upstairs to check out one of the rooms and found himself inside a sanctuary by a lake . It looked like a hermitage . Outside the window was a view of a waterfall that cascaded down into the lake from about . Some steps went up from the  lake to some higher places above the lake .

Lara went to have a look at one of the rooms and discovered she was standing inside a farmhouse . Outside the window were horses in a paddock and some barns . There was other farm equipment around outside .

While everyone was in their own world , there , they were happy and at felt home without any sense of separation from the other family members .

Time seemed to stand still while they were there .

When they all eventually left their rooms , they never said anything about what they had seen or where they had been . They just ate some food and as soon as they could they returned back to the places that they come from .

As they days passed all of them were rarely spent time together as a family , they were totally consumed in their own little worlds in the rooms they had found . Months passed they never really seen one another . They had made new lives for themselves in the worlds they had discovered .

Somehow their lives were now detached as if they were all brainwashed . They had forgotten about who they were before the rooms of that house that were portals into some different places .

They were all happy in their own worlds living different lives and having new experiences .

The experience for each was unique .Each day they left the room to have dinner in the big dining room . No one ever spoke of what was happening inside their worlds .

Then one evening at dinner Joshua didn’t show up for dinner in the big dining room, they all looked at one another and realised something wasn’t right . Thet all went up to his room and found him dead .He was lying there on the floor . He was now very old looking and suddenly all of them were awakened to reality . For the first time they saw each other and remembered who they were . All of them had aged and in a state of shock they all stood looking at each other . It was almost like they had been hypnotized and now realised they had to get out of that house right away .

But each door they opened provide no exit , they were all trapped inside the large home .

Each of the family members  all died one with their bodies mysteriously removed by something or someone .

In a passage of time the old estate home went back on the market and was sold at auction to another wealthy family who had no idea what kind of world they were about to experience .
