I wanted to pass along an idea I’ve had for my SWN character. I was
thinking about playing an AI. My character’s official designation would be
CDX-1138, my AI was designed and built by the Imperium before the scream. My
mission was exploration, science and possible first contact. The AI was built
for a secret project called CODEX. It would be similar to the Voyager and
Pioneer probes that performed science and visited the majority of planets in our
solar system. They carry special disks that would allow an intelligence with the
technological ability to decipher the disk and know who we are and possibly make
contact with us.

roughly the size of a refrigerator. Powered by two radioisotope thermoelectric
generators. The plutonium-238 has since decayed and the armature is currently
reliant on 32.5 meters of photovoltaic solar panels that can fold and unfold as
needed. Batteries can store up to 96 hours of electricity before the solar
panels have to be deployed. The solar panels provide basic electricity for the
science instruments on board and for the other “armature”
parameters would have changed. The armature would look like a space probe

The secondary “armature” is a semi-solid hologram that allows the AI to
make a physical display for first contact purposes. The armature was referred to
as the probe’s avatar and could represent whatever likeness needed for
diplomatic conversations. It is obvious to anyone that interaction with the
avatar that it is a hologram. The hologram can manipulate light photons to
solidify which allows the avatar to interact with the environment(i.e. shake
hands, move objects, push buttons.) Solidifying the avatar uses more energy from
the batteries and the science instruments cannot be used simultaneously or a
failsafe activates and the hologram or instruments shut down.

smaller 10 N engines for more precise maneuvering, together with plumbing,
storage and pressurizing tanks. Fuel for the main engines is monomethylhydrazine
and nitrogen tetroxide. Tanks are empty and no spaceflight is possible until
refueled or alternate engine is installed. The main armature does not have a
spike drive. Between system transfers both planetary and intergalactic the AI
would enter hibernation mode with a predetermined time to reactivate for course
corrections and system diagnostics. An extendable communication antenna was used
for long and short range radio.

I believe I finished with my new character and wanted to explain my vision.
The dimensions are in metric 91.44 cm(36 inches)in width, 175.26 cm(69 inches)
in height and 83.82(33 inches) in depth. With 0877822 cubic meters(31 cubic
feet) of total volume, which is filled with scientific equipment and the AI’s
matrix. The main propulsion system adds another 1.83 metes(6 feet). The probe is
a stadium shaped vehicle with a conical exhaust and fuel storage at one end.
Various RCS units are mounted laterally and around the vehicle for station
keeping. A communications/magnetometer boom can telescope out to a maximum of
9.14 m(30 ft.) and mounted on the boom is also various scientific instruments
namely the plasma wave subsystem and the magnetometer. Other scientific sensors
are housed in the main body and can be revealed when panels move or open. Four
lasers are mounted opposite of the exhaust and are not military grade lasers.
Four panels open at the corners to allow the lasers to be activated. A mirror
can detach from the body and will be missing when the characters discover my
character. I will explain later what purpose the lasers and mirror serve.

combination of mirrors and laser platforms orbiting at various locations
throughout the system. CDX-1138 AI was conceived under project CODEX. Project
CODEX invited various specialist and business investors to develop unmanned
spacecraft for interstellar exploration and first contact missions. Under the
spacecraft’s own thrust and with two gravity assists achieved a relative
velocity of thirty-eight thousand km/h. The photonic laser thruster project
activated and after a year of pulse laser acceleration CDX-1138 achieved a
relative velocity of of two thousand, five hundred thirty seven km/s, just under
once percent of the the speed of light. The comm/magnetometer boom is extended
before the the heliosphere shock is detected, once the magnetometer and plasma
wave subsystem confirm the heliosphere of the new system a mirror is detached
and one laser pushes the mirror to a distance of hundred million km in a
retrograde direction. The other three lasers are activated and process of
photonic laser breaking is performed. The mirror will disintegrate from cosmic
dust and laser activity. The entire breaking process will take years allowing
CDX-1138 to slow and be captured in heliocentric orbit. During the breaking
process and the three years of orbiting a new star, the space probe will monitor
for any signals originating from the target planet. As much scientific data will
be collected about the target system. If any signals are detected the AI will
plot a new delta-v to intercept the planet and establish a orbit around the
habitable world. If contact is not initiated by the natives of the target
planet, CDX will then make radio contact. If the natives agree to non-hostile
contact, the probe will tighten the orbit to one hundred kilometers and
broadcast a hologram to make contact with the worlds
leaders.

It was the designer’s hope that any friendly
contact CDX-1138 made would allow the hosting civilization to achieve new
scientific leaps and would allow them to refuel and repair the space probe and
move to the next system. I don’t know how you want to introduce my character,
but we could assume any contact made was initially peaceful, but the
civilization decided to capture and try to reverse engineer CDX and now it is in
the hands of a mad scientist.
