Clem is the Basset Hound next door
And I feel rather sorry for him.
He’s outside 24/7/365 and lives out of his doghouse.
There are two times each day when he wants in:
lunch and
dinner,
and I can hear his baleful high-pitched bark.
Tail wagging while he barks, and when he gets no response,
His tail slowly drops as he walks away.
Many days I look out my windows
To see him sprawled on the ground napping.
When he’s close to the fence, I scratch his forehead
While those sad eyes look up at me.
I turn away with tears in my eyes, wanting to pick him up
And make him mine.
