Memories

I save memories,
Memories of times long gone,
Days of youthful pleasure.
Long flowing pigtails bedecked in blue ribbons,
And a cotton dress.
I was vibrant and alive,
Running through grassy fields.
I save memories,
Memories of teachers, cross and stern,
Of first loves and kisses,
Parties and fancy clothes.
Bell bottom trousers, fringed waistcoats and hotpants.
I save memories,
Memories of people gone to the other side,
A grey haired grandmother,
Loving and caring.
The smell of her stewed tea
And taste of her cream cake linger on.
A grumpy, old grandad,
Balding, regimented and unsmiling.
And a Victorian grandma, serene and sedate
Admired and loved but feared.
Memories saved
Within separate little compartments.
My precious memories,
No-one else’s treasures of life equal mine!
