The Lamb of God who …

… takes away the sin of the world.
[Continuing the hymn-for-Sundays series]
They went to Pilate’s palace
with hazy accusation.
It was the date to celebrate
God’s rescue of the nation.
[The Passover lamb was eaten
reminding how its blood
had marked the houses, saved from
fate Pharaoh had incurred].
But now these men brought Jesus
but would not enter in
the palace for they feared thus
defilement that would bring.
They did not see sin greater –
their trial of this man
unjustly held – Christ Jesus,
predicted Passover Lamb.
For they were there demanding
Jesus be slain by Rome.
They closed their eyes to justice –
though to him they could come
for cleansing from their follies –
the Lamb of God could bring
the greatest rescue ever –
pardon for every sin!
