No Crash-Landings!

How does the busy little bee
land neatly on the breeze-blown tree?
The engineer scratched his head,
‘Why do our robots crash instead –
we’ve done research hi-tec with radars
so unsuccessfully, and lasers –
they cannot manage, cannot cope
with landing well on such a slope.’
That tiny brain of little bee
has nano-gadgets, eyes that see
that as it heads towards those blooms
the petal aimed for larger looms,
and at the rate the image grows,
its brain adjusts its flight-speed, slows.
‘Why didn’t we realise that, before?!
So simple really, we can store
a little camera on our flying
robots, though there’s no denying
the ‘brain’ we make won't be as neat
as the bee’s small brain, with skills replete!’
How can it, bee?
that that little grain of matter
is such a complex chemical computer
to programme, linking sight and flight,
and organise within the hive
the work to keep the brood alive?
By what great mind was it conceived,
and who has wisdom, is so skilled
the brain of the tiny, little bee to build?

Such and original and fun
Such and original and fun read, Rhiannon. I'll never look at a bee in quite the same way.

Fun poem with a sharp barb
Fun poem with a sharp barb for our scientific 'experts'. Nature knows best...and don't forget it.
This gets my Busy Bee award.

Oh Rhiannon,
Oh Rhiannon,
This is a great poem. It says so much in such a clever way and it has a religious thread running through it that holds a universal truth. I loved it.

Hi Rhiannon
Hi Rhiannon
You remind us again of the intricacy and cleverness of nature. I like hearing the details of how these creatures work. We take so much for granted.
