Les makes his debut.
"Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls... I present to you the duke of
direct delivery, the king of chron direct? its?(drum-roll please)
LES!!!"
As Les walks up to the stage, the room is alight with smiles and
cheers. The audience has waited all night for the chance to hear Les
talk, on this his maiden speech for Chron Direct. The master of
ceremonies saunters to the front of the stage to greet Les as he
finishes his ascent onto the wooden boards of fame and into the
limelight. The two share a glance of equal respect and Les walks to
center-stage with a confident swagger.
As he takes the microphone up into his hand the crowds are silenced in
anticipation. Les looks out across the awestruck spectators and gives a
cunning smile to his knowing colleagues, who smile back smugly; safe in
the knowledge that Les is ready. His first speech in this meeting will
undoubtedly be the beginning of a beautiful string of speeches.
As Les raises the microphone to his mouth, time seems to slow, his hand
passes across his stomach and then his chest, getting closer to his
mouth. The crowd grows awkward with anticipation. The slow, deep sound
of a pen dropping to the floor echoes around the room like a drum being
beaten in the silence of night. It makes some of the nearer onlookers
jump, pulling them from their captivated daze and reminding them to
breath. Yet most people pay it no attention and the edge of the seats
are still poised with frustrated inhabitants. All eyes in the room are
fixed upon the figure stood upon the stage. All eyes are set on
Les.
The pressure inside of his tense fans rises within them, the room feels
tense, the pressure immense and ready to implode with excitement and
anticipation. In this moment panic starts to form in Les' mind. Can he
please this crowd, what if they hate him, what if he stumbles his words
and fails to deliver? The microphone now rested on Les' lower lip. It
is cold and wakes him from his thoughts like a cold shower wakes a
drunk form his inebriation and it is now time. It is time to deliver
the speech he has worked towards his whole life. The speech that may
define the way people look at Les, with admiration, with high regard
and with respect, for all his days to follow.
A quiet voice echoes in Les' ear, "What if I fail". The solemn sentence
searches around Les' head. Like a leopard in the jungle, the words hunt
and seek out weakness in the mind of our hero. But fail they must, for
less is far to strong willed to let such a futile test of will succeed
and in response a loud booming voice draws Les' attention away from the
audience for a split second. A split second that could of been an
eternity to Les alone, and all of a sudden he is alone in the room. The
rows of seats once full of anxious faces sit empty and upturned, the
lights down low and the spot light off. "You're not gonna fail your
gonna blow them away. Your Les god damn it!" Les began to speak?
