THE BENEFACTOR poem

The Benefactor
I won the Lotto I did
now dividing up the loot a task
not unfavourable
to the one who decides --
a farm for Aunt Millie
scholarship for nephew Peter
money for bills
family and friends
joining those in need.
Easy to dole out nice gifts
shoving aside hard work
persistent struggles
for those in receipt of givings
and why should their lives not
receive the fruits of
someone’s benevolence?
In the middle of the night I awoke.
“Listen,” a voice said
its majesty penetrating my
dreamy comfort. It was my Lord.
“I provide to the needs of others,”
He intoned. “My gifts are what Jesus
My Son brought to you. “
Yes, I did receive those precious
words in the silence
of the night --
Love
Forgiveness and
Praying for others is really
the true path for benevolence.
