Guardian
in the sky this creature is
who perches
at the tallest peak
of an apartment complex.
He views with faraway eyes
and caw-caw’s
vigorously if anything
is amiss.
He weathers rainfall
with a feathery blanket-
when discovered
food is always shared-
his mate can always
depend on him.

Rare to read a poem that
Rare to read a poem that notices how birds look after each other. Seagulls do this, too. You create an impression of a responsible, loyal individual. If they were human we would call crows upright and good citizens. Somehow your poem conveys space as well, and the feeling of solitariness. Enjoyed reading
