RHINE PASSAGE.
Through cool dark Forests their journey lay
By shimmering river, yards of golden vine,
Rested `neath honey dripping blossom trees,
During nights lit by stars , light as eternal day,
And so for them there was no end to time.
When day came they bathed naked to the sun,
Talked , laughed , sang and were silent,
They slept under trees and in old wayside inns,
And passed the night in a Gast-Gaus at Reins,
Where timber houses learnt o`er cobbled streets,
In a blue washed room with beams along the walls.
Through the windows , the white silence of the moon
Lit up the Rhine , flowing dark , silent , the stream of life,
Now and then a ship would pass with a wash,
Of song and water , passing like a Galleon of light,
And music ploughing through the darkness,
Then with the passing of the ship the night would close,
Like a dark velvet curtain falling into place.
