In the Forest of Ardenne

In the Forest of Ardenne

we are a multitude who hide

from different kings and things

for differing reasons.

Some have found God

and take holy penance by sleeping

on the mossy forest sod

for pillow a hollowed log;

While others are in exile

or have merely found the God

that turned water to wine.

Yet we have not entirely 

forgotten our higher angels and senses;

and still take time for music, prayer,

and conversations of philosophy-

over a cup of forest chammomile tea.
