Syrian Blood is on American Hands

Syrian blood is on American hands... dripping down the Greek columns of the White House and spouting out of that fountain into the neatly manicured red flowers that circle it. For how many months and how many times did American leaders, most notably Hillary Clinton(presumably with Barack Obama's assent) tell the rebels that their movement would be victorious and that Assad would fall? When the U.S.A., the mushroom-cloud enforced sole super-power of the world says that a "regime" is going to fall, that's a promise to help make it happen. Because we've established good international credit of a certain sort, it was taken seriously and countless women and children defied machine-gun fire, countless Arabic men endured tortures that would torture many Americans if they had to even watch the thing on a screen.
To answer Romney, this is the reason we did not give our "support" to the Green Revolution in Iran. There's a word for support that comes only in the form of soaring words: "hypocrisy." As a young university student, I felt intuitive disgust at our entrance into the 2nd Iraqi War, and I admired Obama for his courageous vote against two rival parties united in flag-waving conformity. And in the following years, as I saw and read many things good and bad about the Obama administration, my admiration increased as the stench of Presidential hero worship faded... and it certainly extends to Hillary Clinton, who brings an apparent compassion to the international face of our American empire, and reminds us all of the feminist revolution which has been the most significant change in human affairs since the liberation of the serfs.
But this world of the 21st century is profoundly flawed... in highly important ways, we've regressed and not advanced since the days of The Enlightenment, Voltaire, Frederick the Great, and Catherine of Russia. Indeed, even the blood-soaked knights of medieval Europe would have lifted their visors in amazement at the glacier-cold way America's leaders unequivocally encouraged the people of Syria to rise up against a high-tech professional army, refused to so much as supply them with weaponry... and now our news stations report not on Syrian gore but on how that bad David Petraeus committed the unnatural atrocity of sleeping with a witty and beautiful young woman.
