Once Upon a Time

If this ends.
If this journey slows its pace.
If you and I must pass the ground, opposed.
If you and I must sever ourselves from adoration,
then pity us.
We could have been steel bodies forged and united.
We could have been made of bullet proof hearts.
You could have shown me solidarity.
You could have shown me molded and melded and giddy with joy.
But you abstain from maturity and deny us peace.
MY hands are bound, I'm rooted to your apathy.
My heart is clenched, I'm unable to breathe.
to gasp, is to hope.
should I pray for your deliverance?
to wait is to wither down,
would i dissolve from your apathy?
Could your substance be my matter or antimatter, does it matter?
Is it time to gather up this shattered suit of armor and raise my hands
in surrender?
Cheap shot, you didn't count 'till three.
You didn't see my shining eyes and let me breathe.
You didn't search my soul, gather up my pain and embrace me.
So what do I do when we've lost the game?
How do I shrug it off and continue on my merry way?
You've blasted me with vigilence of irresponsibility
and my tears sear you with the blame.
Your eyes deceive me with their lucidity.
Your eyes close our storybook with a gaze.
To end the fairytale, my love, remember that.
To end this, is to diminish ourselves.
To end this, is to close the back page to a final volume and let the
dust gather on the cover
and waste away.
My author's note will be an apology, and forgiveness please.
And a sob will saturate the story, it won't let it be.
You won't let me be.
You'll haunt me.
My love.
