It's not true that you can see into someone's soul
through their eyes. What you can see is damage
hissing by like a drop of coffee into a hot dry pot.

Otherwise blankness. Think of this when you stare
into the blue-edged flare that is their uniqueness,
stamped with regulation black uncrushed peppercorn pupil.
