'On Such a Night as This...'

moonlight glistens on shot-silk
and sequined frame, on the top
of my piano, and I glimpse you
glancing down, from wherever
you are, as I try, so very hard
to play Ivor Novello, the way 
you did.
 
A poor attempt, you would agree,
but I know you’d never admit it,
not in a million years. White lies,
you always used to say, were OK, if
it meant sparing someone’s feelings.
 
You were a real looker, then, and no
mistake; turned all the boys' heads – 
not yet wed, not quite, of course.  
Grandpa stands beside you, minus
moustache and glasses, but unmistakably
him, by the swing in someone’s backyard.
 
Many years have flown, since,
and I notice how I echo the flare
of your nostrils, the brownness
of your eyes; your hair, kind of wayward,
with a mind of its own, a bit...no
a lot like mine
 
and I muse how we two might
have been sisters, were it not
for the fact you knew much more
of time than I ever could.  And now,
there is only my piano to tell
a myriad of things to, I wish,
with all my heart,
I’d told you.

I'm always enchanted by your writing Tina...how you take the reader into your world and your thoughts.

Hello Tina,

Yes, so many of us can relate to the feelings expressed so eloquently here.  Wonderful evocative writing, Tina.  You always seem to hit the right note with your poems as with this one as you h ave expressed what for some of us is a vague feeling that one can't seem to find the words for.
