I Can Still Hear My Words, Mean And Unkind
I can still hear my words, mean and unkind,
Sharpened like razors designed to sever.
I guess I must have been out of my mind.
I searched and hunted for faults I could find,
Hurling insults that I thought so clever;
I can still hear my words, mean and unkind.
Your face, like your manner, smooth and unlined;
Dignity that I won't forget - ever.
I guess I must have been out of my mind.
You never complained, or grumbled or whined,
And yes, it's fair now to ask me whether
I can still hear my words, mean and unkind.
Clearly I wanted to leave you behind,
No care that you wanted us together -
I guess I must have been out of my mind.
Who could have known I would have been so blind;
Eyes shut tight as you walked out forever.
I can still hear my words, mean and unkind,
I guess I must have been out of my mind.
