In Quiet Moments

Late years can't take
facing crouched snows,
spirit hatched facility
left heart to repose,
softly somewhere safe,
not like leaves buffeted
feeling severity of cold,
wandering glow flickers
bathing rooms in still rest,
weary deep yawn...those
silent thoughts as world
recedes to smooth music,
flames extinguished
gazing patiently,
accompanied by turn
of breath now free,
wanting to consume
insatiable yesterdays
as passing changes
meet in winter air,
cultivated patterns
of spiky snowflakes
in winter storms,
variabley unsettling;
blankets me from
unaquainted view,
old shoulders once
swooped easily,
now for whom
must come truth;
crushed and buried
in mouths rising,
ignoring painful
contradictions,
withdrawing
further into self.
