"Doug" what's for breakfast this morning? I really don't know, you
cooking Steve?
What does Harold have planned today? I really couldn't tell you! He got
up this
morning with a bur under his saddle. He was talking about going up in
the high
country after those King Boys" Doug, replied.
Steve said, "I wish we could take a few days off, and go find us a
wife." "Wife"
you got to be kidding Doug, responded! What in the world would we do
with a
wife, out here in the middle of nowhere? "Do you actually think some
woman
would live out here," he asked? "I don't know but, I would like to find
out" Steve,
replied. "I think you should ask the boss if he would give us a few
days off" Doug,
stated!
Harold said, "morning boys." "Good morning boss" they, both replied!
Harold
asked boys, "are you guys about ready to pull out this morning? I went
to town, and
got the warrants for those outlaws. "Yea boss, and we're all saddled
up, and ready
to go whenever you are, "Doug, responded! Steve muttered, "boss we,
would like to
hang around here for a couple more days!"
Harold replied, "we've sat around here for two days waiting on these
warrants."
What is it that you've got to do that is so important? Steve glanced at
Doug, and
stuttered, "boss, I just thought maybe we could ride over to the mining
camp for a
few days."
"Steve" you should have done that instead of sleeping! "Boys" you know
we got to
catch those outlaws. We shouldn't be gone longer than a month. Steve
laughed, and
mumbled, "ok, boss." Harold said, "I'll make you a deal, once we return
I'll give
you boys a vacation."
Doug asked, "where is Rodger, and Jim going to meet us?" Harold
replied, "over at
Joenancy's place." They will bring our supplies. By the way did anyone
make
breakfast this morning? Doug, and Steve looked at each other. Harold
said, "I didn't
think so!" I'm sure glad I had breakfast in town. Doug, and Steve
stared at him.
Harold chuckled, and said, "mount up boys, you can chew on this tossing
them a
piece of beef jerky."
"Rodger," Jim said, we got a couple of hours to kill. Lets you, and I
go in the
saloon, and visit some of the girls. "Sure why not" Rodger, stated.
They were
dismounting when up walked Wink the town sheriff. "Howdy boys what
brings you
to town," he asked? They informed him; they were there to pick up
supplies.
Wink told them, if you're going over to Lloyd, and Ginny's store. I
suggest you do
it now. They are packing up to leave. They're going to Ashton to visit
her mama.
Jim mumbled, I guess we won't have that drink after all. Thanks Wink,
and they
tipped their hats. "See your later boys, "Wink said.
Jim asked, "how did he ever get that name Wink?" Rodger replied, "I
think he
always had an eye for the women, that's what I was told!" Jim said, "I
would have
never thought that. He seems so shy at times. "I heard he's got a thing
for Buffy
who works in the saloon at Joenancy's place, "Rodger muttered. Besides,
he makes
a few dollars playing, and singing in the saloons. Wink has
always had an ear for music!
Lloyd called out, "howdy boys!" Ginny, and I were waiting on you two.
Harold
told, "us" you would be coming in town for your supplies. "Lloyd" Wink
told us
you, and Ginny were going to Ashton. I think maybe you two should ride
along
with us. I'm sure you heard about the King Boys. Rodger said, "we've
been told
they are a rough bunch, and you, and Gin may need some
protection."
Lloyd glanced at Ginny, and asked, "what do you think honey?" Ginny
replied, "I
think maybe we should go with them Lloyd!" "Rodger, throw your supplies
in our
wagon, "Lloyd said. Jim muttered, "thanks Lloyd, we would appreciate
that, it will
take the load off our horses."
They were almost loaded up, and ready to leave when in walked Wink. He
asked,
"boys, you think Harold needs an extra hand?" I'm sick of this town,
and being a
sheriff. Jim scratched his head, and replied, "Wink, we need a cook
more than
anything." Wink muttered, "boys, I can out cook most women, and
winked."
Everyone started laughing.
Rodger asked if he was, "packed?" Wink pointed to his horse, and
mumbled, "I'm
packed." Everyone stared at his horse it looked like a Christmas tree.
He had
everything he owned hanging on it. Ginny said, "Wink, I'm sure we can
get a few
of your things in our wagon." Wink stuttered, "thank-you Ginny" as he
started
unpacking his horse. (To be continued)
