The Dog Eared Pity Card

I can still see her face
Contorted and gritted teeth
Arms folded tight
It wasn't the greatest night
Just anpther tired fight
I wondered why we were together
I wondered if she felt the same
Why do folk stay so long
When things stop working
Do we hang on to false security
Are we scared of a new dawn
Just because we're getting old
Conversations slide into the next row
I think back to happier days
Whe we seemed so free
I can't remember when it all went sour
And here we are at the midnight hour
Sorting out what's mind or yours
Every discussion sparks another row
The early years were full of life
Now her you are holding a knife
We are botjh to blame
No we are not she said
and I wish you were dead
I had no answer
It was hard watching her play
The dog eared pity card
As love left the house
Covered in bruises and excuses
