PASSION OF THE CHRIST FILM REVIEW
by
Steven Michael Collins
When I arrived at the cinema and sat comfortably in my seat, I was
expecting a
gratuitous bloodbath. I just wanted to see what all the fuss was about
after the
widespread gratuitous violence tag that the film has acquired by some
that have
witnessed the film. I wanted to see if the criticism was justified. A
bloodbath it was,
gratuitous is was not (even though some people left).
It was tasteful in my opinion. The violence was in context. The abuse
of
Jesus had to be bloody because that is how it was in The Bible. A less
violent
portrayal would have patronised. Mr Gibson used the tool of dramatic
violence twice
in the film to faithfully re-enact Jesus' final days: being flogged and
the carrying of
his cross. The audience were emotional with pathos for Jesus and hatred
for his
attackers. It showed Jesus practising what he talks about in the face
of adversity: the
act of forgiveness.
The final scene depicted a resurrected Jesus, physically healed.
Forgiving his wrong
doers. A moving film that I would recommend anyone to watch.
