An agonising decision

An agonising decision.
Selfish, some might say.
I chose not to tell,
I think it was better that way.
I didn't want sympathy,
didn't want to share
the pain. It was mine alone,
for no one else to bear.

Fate is kind to some of us.
She took away the need,
plucked it from my garden,
as if it were a weed.
