Tellurian Balancing Act

 

Through a shattered monochrome kaleidoscope

I seek the sun with tear-stained waning hope

Stealing summer’s life and colours it’s eloped

To kiss a southern place’s northern slope

 

Each falling leaf’s a funeral for a bud

Each blustery squall seems sent to freeze my blood

Earth's axial tilt I’ve never understood

It should be balanced for our planet’s common good

 

It’s another grim forever autumn day

The radio’s on, DJ’s playing ‘Fade To Grey’

With a burning wish to sleep or fly away

My face pretends that everything’s okay

It's really speeding up at the moment isn't it? Properly dark by 7.20 here last night. I don't understand people who enjoy it!

We're dark from 7 to 7 here, which i suppose is about right for the time of the year. 

I don't know why I bothered writing the poem as it only reminded me that the problem exists.

But thank you for the cherries.

autumnal equinox has passed and it's all doom and gloom. If you're in the doom, you get more gloom. In the doom and you get more Trump supporters.

I had to look up Tellurian.  I thought it was something to do with Star Trek ('the Tellurian crystals are failing, Captain !').   Your posts are always educational.

Cheer up, it will soon be Christmas !  Does the Eastern Orthodox Church celebrate that ?

To be honest with you I only found the word tellurian in the thesaurus yesterday. I had never heard of tellurian crystals, so your comments are educational too. My brother-in-law is called Ian, so the phrase ‘tell our Ian’ often crops up in family conversations.

The Orthodoxies in these parts do celebrate Christmas for a few hours on the evening of 24th December, and the really old ones celebrate it on 7th January, but Madame P and I don’t bother with it at all. We both really love January so that’s what we look forward to.

It’s at this time of the year that the benefits of being an insomniac start to kick in as there are now only eleven more sleeps until Christmas.
