(Magician shows us a golden dagger)
Men in power look radiant; noble and wise. They’re like this dagger; see how it shines and is spotless. It’s almost like a polished mirror.
(Magician does paddle move pretending to show both sides of dagger but only showing clean side)
You wouldn’t think that this dagger had ever been used for an evil deed would you? No more than you would suspect a powerful man of evil deeds but the stains of true evil never really vanish; look they are still here-
(Tapping the blade, Magician flips it round and now we see its bloody side appear)
Can you see? There is the blood of the enemies that a man has slain and the innocent people he has sacrificed for his fortune.
(Magician does paddle move again, now only showing us the bloody side)
The blade doesn’t look so nice now does it? Use it for a mirror now and we see our own faces smeared with blood.
But blood can easily be washed away can’t it? And people’s need to believe a lie is almost magical
(Magician wipes the blade while flipping it and the blood appears to vanish)
They would rather see great men as heroes than villains; rather believe in a world that is pure and just and noble; clean and golden and shining, just like this blade.
(Magician does paddle move and shows us that the blade is clean on both sides)
