love is never black and white

It was a new kind of solstice;
the day the sun's rays slipped
stuttered and shortened to a different spectrum
and all the colour was gone
Life carried on like a old movie
but artists had to learn how to paint
in shadows and light
Poets had no words for sunsets
and flowers, skies and oceans
People made gardens from metal and glass
concrete and rain
but you
you were given a mirrored palace
with darkened windows
and guards
People came, and camped out on the streets
for weeks, Wealthy people came
and gave up their wealth
The world's religious leaders
shared a mini bus, and came
All the politicians came
and were mute
Kings and Queens came and laid down
pallid jewels at your door
In a windowless room for an hour a day
you sit on a translucent throne
and watch the people shuffle forward, on their knees
for a 10 second look at your Aegean eyes
