MY FEET DON'T FIT THE FOOTPRINTS

when young, we're taking baby steps
an awkward little gait
and as we get a grasp on things
we start to escalate

our stride becomes more confident
but still at times we fall
and if we trip while running fast
we may not rise at all

for life can be most painful
when it steps upon your toe
my feet don't fit the footprints
that i fashioned long ago

it's great to be a dancer
and to move around with flair
i only end up foolish
when i strive for fred astaire

for gliding is not easy
when your shoes are filled with sand
impossible, you find
when on the sea you try to stand

and when the ice is thin
the prudent people take it slow
