Clutch of eggs crack open, hatch,
parents rush and dash to catch
insects, spiders, bugs for food
for their gaping, growing brood.
Little nestlings getting fatter:
feathered wings soon all a-flutter,
soon they’re perching on the edge,
ready to let go and fledge.
Fledglings, venture out, and fly,
wave your wings to say, ‘Goodbye’,
no more waiting to be fed –
start to feed yourselves instead!
