The heart of Pai is the heart of man

The air is a torrent of
wet
dewy
excitable
vigorous
cartwheeling molecules
engorging everything --
unlike the absent air of the city
which recedes back always to one sole suction point
The air is constant and whirring and
percolates in spirals -
like raindrops down a coiled twine
It is heavier - this air - than the layer supporting
so it slips through the cracks
hanging slack but tight like a tucked-in blanket --
you can see it…fluttering the leaves
which respond in movement or stillness
In the air
nature revolts
not only in the twittering and simmering of birds
and insect
but in the eruptive squawks and
the heavy undertow of silence
********
At the edge is the river
the ever brown river
Sludge…
Sliding..
Like the air
that’s what you sink to --
since that’s how they carry you out to sea
