Sock it to Me

One of those domestic miracles

you do a wash

and all those odd socks that have been knocking around  for ages

all find their partners

after years of solitary and widowed wandering

after resisting the bloodless purges of the odd sock drawer

they pair up during the eco spin cycle

red socks, blues socks, Christmas pringle socks

While you remain a crumpled sockless giant

searching the warm echoing drum

 for the ghost of a long lost sock
