ESP

For once Jessica proves me wrong. I don't know if she's employing a different tactic or whether she believes that affecting nonchalance might provoke me into volunteering the information she's after, but she talks about the weather and wonders if she'll be able to do any skiing today given that far too much snow has fallen on the slopes overnight.
Her devious plotting doesn't work with me as I know her pretty well, so I keep mum.
What I have never been able to fathom out is her ESP, her extra sensory perception capability. Is it genuine or some kind of trickery? I remember being astonished when, out of the blue, she asked me to tell her about Elizabeth, my deceased fiancée whose death had not been reported and was only known to me and Lottie, the friend who came to the funeral.
When one day she had suddenly said “Who is Lottie?”, I was equally surprised but later learned that my niece had found out about her existence from a letter that I had carelessly left in a book and started to doubt her precognition, although Jessica never claimed that it was a psychic phenomenon.
On seeing Lottie departing she turned to me and declared: “I sense that she's had a difficult time but she'll be alright now, I have seen her aura.”
The aura is normally perceived as an oval-shaped area around a person. This area can be slightly brighter, or show a more glossy “finish”, as if “the air had been polished” in that area. Sometimes vibrations or textures can be perceived as well. Colours are common perceptions although some may see white brightness only. This first area of observation is usually quite static.
I know all this because she has explained to me that the human aura is part of the subtle body, or energy anatomy, that all living beings have. It works as a field of colourful energy surrounding the physical body and connecting the physical human to the energy of the universe.
I am an old sceptic and take all that psychobabble with a pinch of salt but she seems to take it very seriously. If it means that fortune is coming our way I am prepared to swallow my words.
I realise too late how clever she has been in making the prediction that Lottie will be fine; she has succeeded in loosening my tongue and I find myself having to come clean about my knowledge of Lottie's tribulations. Before I can say too much, though, I am saved by the bell.
The phone call is from Lottie who is bringing me up to date and has welcome news. She informs me that justice has finally been done: Kurt has been arrested and convicted of multiple rapes. They have plenty of evidence and the authorities say she won't have to testify.
Everything else is proceeding smoothly. A financial settlement with Lettie has been achieved and she'll be back in a couple of days.

ESP does exist
ESP does exist Luigi and most psychologists believe it does but rather as (currently unexplained) science than supernatural. Sadly the conclusion of your story doesn't make much sense to me.
See you Luigi! Have a good week! Tom
