It is sunny and a warm 70 degrees here in SW Florida this morning. Snow storms are hitting areas of the east coast and in the southwest. Winter has arrived.
Today is the official roll out of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccines. Three million doses have been shipped across the United States yesterday, to be stored at super-cooled temperatures. The first doses will be given to front-line health care workers to protect them from the medical scourge that they face daily. The next batches will complete this task and then move on to inoculating Senior Citizens in Nursing Homes. Medical experts predict that in January and February, the CDC and FDA will approve two more vaccines, to swell the vaccine arsenal. There is light at the end of a very dark tunnel for all of us. CVS Drugs and Walgreens are under contract to the Federal Govt. to handle administering vaccinations.
Meanwhile, on the eve of our rescue, the virus is still on the rampage. We have reached the 300,000 deaths level, from Corona complications here in the U.S. Some 16.3 million Americans have been infected by Corona Virus this year.
Our borders with Canada, and most European nations, are still closed. These nations all face their own complications as the vaccine starts to be issued. It is an international struggle not seen since the 1918 Spanish Flu epidemic.
The issue of an “anti-vaccine” movement emerges. Many people just don’t trust the new drug or the government to be safe. It will take major education programs to counter this vaccine fear.
Medical experts still urge the population to wear masks and keep their social distancing. It is not yet medically clear whether or not vaccinated people can pass on the virus, even if they are not sick or show any symptoms. Also, they suggest that even people who have recovered from Covid-19 should be vaccinated. We don’t yet know how long natural anti-bodies will protect humans.
The financial markets reflect nothing at this point, still cruising along at the 30,000-point level. You would think the vaccine roll out would cause an uptick, but it hasn’t happened.
As a backdrop to the ongoing Corona Drama, the U.S Supreme Court summarily dismissed the last multi-state lawsuit, by Trump Forces, to overturn the results of the 2020 Presidential Election. The Electoral College meets today to cast their ballots and make official the election of Joseph R. Biden as the 46thPresident of the United States and Kamala Harris as Vice President.
One day at a time.

One day at a time indeed. I
One day at a time indeed. I do hope that the tumult surrounding your election will start to subside a little now, although that may be a bit optimistic. I've said it before, but these journal pieces of yours have been among my favourite reads over the last few months. Shared experience, even though different in detail.
