The hope and fear being the hope that the recipient of the gift likes it or hasn’t already got one and the fear of not being able to remember where we have put the receipt.

Your second two lines bring to mind stillness but with the knowledge that at another side of a continent icy winds are preparing to blow mighty blizzards across vast plains, changing the landscapes as they go.

Had I been writing about wind at Christmas then mine would have been a completely different story. I would have had to mention a huge Christmas lunch, falling asleep on the settee in the afternoon and the biological warfare that can result from an overdose of Brussels sprouts. Oh I’m so cheap!

This is yet another enjoyable one. I'll miss them when they come to an end.

:0) I will miss your comments when they come to an end! Had not even thought about sprout attack. 

My partner does not like vegetables much unless they are fried. Thankfully after a few years of Christmas sproutlessness I found a recipe for stir fried sprouts which he liked very much. My son does too, so I buy a carrier bag full of sprouts from the greengrocer and a huge bundle of parsely :0) As we don't eat meat sprouts are the special bit of the Christmas meal (we do eat other things as well!) I expect the after effects start more weather than butterflies' wings.

Thankyou very much for reading and commenting. I was hoping present might go with the time now sort of present, in that every now could be the start of change, but does not come across. Maybe change it  presently :0)

I hope you got to see some sunshine today and the cat poem is going well :0)

I laughed and then I cried a little when I read…

sprouts are the special bit of the Christmas meal

I despise all those crazy reveller folk who pour scorn on the lentil casserole that Priyatelka and I have at Christmas but now we have found allies in you and your clan. And I’m sorry if I sound a bit judgemental but I’d rather have ours than yours. In fact, I’d rather eat cat food than sprouts. But I sincerely hope that you and your family enjoy your meal and that the whole day in general is a happy and peaceful one.

The cat poem is coming along very well. I’ve ‘done’ the first four. It was a bit difficult to get started but now I’m into it I’m quite enjoying it. I’m thinking of adding on a couple of verses for the dogs at the end … and maybe even one for Priyatelka as I often tell people that I rescued her from the street too.

And if you keep on writing, I’ll keep on commenting. I’m finding ABC Tales Land impossible to resist.

Aha! That's because you haven't tried stirfried sprouts, they are  YUMMY!!! The only thing is it takes over an hour to peel them all and slice them all as my hands are a bit stiff these days. If you stay on ABC much longer I will be asking you to swap recipes :0) Am very glad to hear the cat+ poem is going well :0)

Interesting. I'm sorry I didn't see it before you changed it. I think you have caught the two uses of 'present'. You have to look for the hope beneath life's coverings somtimes, and with faith? Rhiannon
