Forgive – and forget?

[Continuing the hymn-for-Sundays series]
We cannot ask God to forgive, count us good,
if we will not pardon those whom we should.
When choosing to not remember our sins,
it's as if He the lot into oceans flings.
Sometimes we just can't pretend we’ve forgot
but if we forgive, then we must try to live
not bringing to mind past injuries unkind,
so glad of the grace in our Father we find.
“Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us” The Lord’s Prayer Matthew 6:12-15
[IP: forgotten]

disobedience
Rhiannon, to me the definition of "sin" is "disobedience to God". The really hard part is asking forgiveness for sins you know, you will still commit. Compounds things.
Keep well! Tom

Such a heartfelt reflection —
Such a heartfelt reflection — beautifully put. That image of God casting our sins into the sea especially stays with me. A timely reminder of grace, and the daily challenge of living it out. Thank you for sharing this.

Ah, thank you for pointing
Ah, thank you for pointing that out — I love that verse in Micah. “You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea” — such a powerful image of mercy.
You've written this so lovely
