The Lad. Part One.

A lovely lad that I work with, went away abroad to get married. His wife lived in a different country. He was away with his new wife, for one month. When he came back to work, he told us, “I had a lovely wedding.” He showed us lots of beautiful pictures. His lovely new wife did not come back with him, he tried to explain it to me, but it sounded complicated. His lovely new wife came to live in England five long months after they got married! Thank goodness for social media! We at work, were all very happy for him, and her.
This morning, I thought of the lad, when I heard about the plane crash, as he is from India and his wife. Watching the plane in the air and quickly seeing the huge amount of thick black smoke, seconds later. I hoped against hope that there were survivors. I always think, what is the point of the seatbelts? I was talking to Daniel about it, and said, “What can you do in six seconds when you know the plane is going down,” I said to Daniel, “Even if you knew it was going down, would you have time to undo the seatbelt, and get to the door?” I also spoke to Meghan about it, telling her, “It was 600 feet in the air,” She said, “I can imagine how high 600 feet is,” In a way it is too high, if a plane is free falling down from the sky.
I can’t imagine the terror, the fear, when before there would have been excitement, at going to England. I wondered about the 53 Britons who lived here, one of them could live on my street, or work in the superstore I shop at. I thought of all the gifts, that they were bringing for loved ones.
We all waited eagerly for news that lives were saved. To think that plane was due to land in London at 6.20pm tonight, the families here hearing the flight number would be shocked at what we all saw on the news.
Then things got worse, we were told that the plane did not come down on the runway but came down on residentials. The plane landed on a doctor’s hostel, those on the plane, would have known the plane was going down in seconds, but those on the ground would not have known.
Then later, we heard that there were children on board.
I thought of the one on the plane, who having waited many months to meet her new husband and start her new life here.
A very sad day today, and the loss of all those precious lives and their families in mourning today.
The we all heard, ONE British man survived, he was in seat 11A. looking forward to hearing his story!
Rest in Peace to All. x
