Farewell Glows

Autumn patchwork splashes spread
glows of orange, spills of red
on background – some still brightest green,
denuded branches shapely seen,
and splattered carpet down below
crisped by breeze, but soon to go
mixing in the mud to feed
the springtime growth of autumn seed.

Some of the Autumn colour is glorious isn't it? Almost all my leaves have gone now though - it's been very windy here. Thank you for this lovely reminder Rhiannon

You say a lot in a few words
You say a lot in a few words beautifully put. Colours seem to have lasted well this year

Autumn - my favourite season?
'And soon to go' - You capture the transitoriness of the seasons and life in general so well.

Twenty years ago when I moved
Twenty years ago when I moved into my cottage, the only colour in my garden at this time of year would have been the leaves on the cherry treees and the flaming brightness of the scarlet and orange berries on the pyracantha.
Today, I also have the blues of campanula, geraniums, plumbago and veronica, the yellow of sedum, the orange of marigolds, the purple of wigelia and fuchsia, the lilac of budleia and the pink of a solitary, determined rose. It's a riot of colour - in November !
Climate change is obviously a terrible thing for the planet, but it does bring small gifts.

Great poem Rhiannon!
Great poem Rhiannon! "mixing in the mud to feed" sad but true, but why? The circle of life, ashes to ashes, dust to dust.
Keep well! Tom

I like the rushing feeling
I like the rushing feeling the rhythm of your poem brings, just like the swift changes - in colour, and how many leaves are left, and temperature every day at this time of year. And your words are wonderful, too - I love "crisped by breeze"
