He left out the pinch of humour,
discarded the measure of leisure,
neglected the spice
of good advice –
needed a sprinkling of wise humility –
for letting others’ ability
strengthen the blend,
would mean in the end
through the heat of hot labour,
his intensive endeavour,
a helping hand
would help him to stand,
stay firm,
but he cracked, and crumbled,
tumbled,
burnt out …
… more humble?

That is why the English always were such an adversary in war. In my opinion, their brilliant sense of humour. Almost even achieving world domination.

Hi, Tom. I don't know about that, but a sense of humour and proper humiliity is necessary in every endeavour. It isn't easy looking back at past times and people being people there will always be a mix of motives and acts in times of war as well as peace, and we don't know or understand all.

When England dominated areas there was a lot of progress and kindness often, but moving on, and letting go was complicated, probably by both sides. This hasn't anything to do with the poem though! Rhiannon
