I ran out of cigarettes last night
I was thinking of you at the time
Your picture and mine in a heart
And yet, I was alone.
The clock that chimes
The times we used to
Rush upstairs like
Small children
I ran out of cigarettes last night
The ashtray is full
But my heart is empty
Your picture has gone
But then I heard that
You were back from wherever you had been
I heard your footsteps
Outside
And I ran to greet you
And as you stood there
In the pouring rain
With your hair dripping wet
And your makeup run
You asked me to forgive you
And I ran out of cigarettes last night
