Heading back
to a cold damp island
trying to find out
if the family still stands
to see what friends
are up to
as if returning
to the scene of a crime
I am nervous
covering all the angles in my mind
running through
my lines
Our brown skin
whispers in the plastic leather
‘never go back’
Eleven months
four seasons
five jobs
and two weeks we’ve been out
and it’s all
counting down
to
a
visit
famous hugs
happen in the car park
things to see, people to eat
places to do
WE MUST ALL CATCH UP
we all agree
then
a funeral, a wedding
some seven days of something
and
spare change
