She sleeps a lot,
largely content and comfortable, not
unhappy as in younger years
when life was hard and tense,
no tears, but little joy or peace, release,
and faith remote, unfelt,
no sign that God indwelt,
supported;

but in these later years
she’s seemed to lose so many fears.
One hundred and seven:
now quietly waits the call of heaven.

This is such a gentle poem. Over recent years, reading what you have so sensitively written about your mother in law, describing how life has softened for her, she seems almost to unclench, and find joy. The full spectrum of life in your family writing - excited, exploring grandchildren, your children, you, your parents and ancient, peaceful (great, great) grandmother, all are wonderful to read
